Ceiling Fans

Air conditioning can be needed in the coming summer months, but you can also help cool your home by installing ceiling fans. When ceiling fans are used in combination with air conditioning, the thermostat can often be raised, some times four degrees or more.  Here is a little information on ideal ceiling fan installation:

• Fan Height – Ceiling fans have the most effect when the blades are between 7 and 9 feet off the ground.

• Distance From Ceiling – The blades of the fan should at least 8 inches from the ceiling.

• Fan Blade Size – Larger fan blades move more air. A 36-44 inch diameter fan is ideal for rooms 225 square feet or smaller.

• Noise – When purchasing a fan you may want to take into consideration a fan’s “noise rating.” It should be visible on the ceiling fan box.

By using ceiling fans as a part of your home’s energy plan you can keep cool and reduce your overall energy bills. If you live in a more temperate climate you might be able to cool your house on ceiling fans alone for this summer season.
